Introduction to the blog

Welcome to my blog Higher Education Research on Musicology. This blog serves to discuss and disseminate content related to research on teaching, learning, and higher education issues related to musicology (broadly defined). The blog was started to support the dissemination of content for my new study on A Pedagogical Framework for the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment of Musicology in Higher Education: Towards A Transformative Model (2024) to participants. This study constitutes part of my Masters degree in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at Trinity College Dublin which is a three-year part-time programme for current and prospective lecturers teaching in higher education.

HER Musicology seemed appropriate as an acronym for this blog, not only as a woman but broadly speaking as women in higher education are often underrepresented at upper levels such as in academic decision making as highlighted in the research of Irish women academics, Ailbhe Smyth, Pat O'Connor and Judith Harford. Since 2005, social media and new web-based platforms have enabled female academics and female postgraduates to represent their own work, and in essence, this has to some extent democratized the voice of women in unprecedented ways within and outside higher education.

This blog serves also as a platform for reflection on research and issues in higher education related to musicology, exploring the research journey involved in my new study, and some general off-topic posts.
