The Rigorous Ethics Process

Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

Rigorous Ethics Process

I must commend the extensive process involved in accepting dissertation proposals at Trinity College as it truly is a process that sets postgraduate students and academic staff up for success in the research process.  An initial dissertation proposal was first submitted in April 2023 preceding the dissertation year, starting September 2023, which was first approved by the School of Education and Strand Leader. Between September and December, students must complete the ethics application form via the Research Ethics Application Management System (REAMs). This involves a series of ethical processes and procedures to be completed as well as additional documents to be completed and reviewed including issues concerning data protection. Academic staff and postgraduates must also complete two modules on Data Protection Training and Research Integrity and Impact in an Open Scholarship Era Training Certificate (A Structured PhD Module). A grade above 80% must be achieved in order to receive two training certificates and to fulfil the ethics approval process. I completed these modules in November and December 2023. The REAMs ethics application form was approved of in February 2024 by the Trinity College Ethics Committee, with minor amendments requested in March 2024.

Supervision - Unforeseen Delays

There has been a number of delays in the study due to unforeseen circumstances in supervision but I will update everyone shortly on the study deadlines. In the meantime, please feel free to complete the Communities of Practice survey and the Cultural Institutions survey.
